The Median BTC Transaction Value is Over 130x Higher Than Bitcoin Cash or Bitcoin SV

Bitcoin naturally draws comparisons to cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin SV (BSV), since they were born as the result of a hard fork of Bitcoin’s code. One of many drastic differences between these currencies is how much value is being sent per transaction.

As of April 13, 2019 (at 11am UTC), BitInfoCharts shows that the median value of transactions sent on the Bitcoin blockchain is significantly higher than those sent on the BCH or BSV blockchain.

According to the site, the median value of a Bitcoin Cash transaction is 0.000045 BCH, which is currently worth around $0.012 USD. The average Bitcoin SV transaction, on the other hand, is worth $1.17 USD (0.017 BSV).

In comparison, the site currently lists Bitcoin’s median transaction value at 0.03 BTC, which is the equivalent of around $152.18 USD.

One possible caveat to these findings is the prevalence of batching. In this process, Bitcoin transactions are bundled together in order to place less strain on the blockchain.

While these findings do suggest that comparatively less is being spent per transaction on the BCH and BTC chains, it is not necessarily to their detriment.

For some proponents, the path to cryptocurrency adoption relies on digital assets being feasible to use for small and frequent purchases. Others may instead see Bitcoin’s comparatively high median transaction value as evidence that investors are more willing to place their faith in what is considered the world’s most popular cryptocurrency.
